  • How to Set Up a Volleyball Court in Your Backyard

    June 30, 2023 2 min read

Whether you're a passionate volleyball player or simply looking for an entertaining outdoor activity, setting up a volleyball field in your backyard will bring you hours of fun. In this blog post, we will show you how to setup a volleyball court in your own backyard.

    Step 1: Check your space

Before you begin setting up your backyard volleyball field, take some time to assess the available space and your budget. Backyard and beach volleyball courts are typically 9 meters x 18 meters for two player teams and increases to 14 meters x 24 meters for 3, 4 or 6 player teams.

Make sure the ground is relatively flat and free of any obstructions like large rocks or tree roots.

Step 2: Gather the necessary equipment

This is what you need to create a volleyball court:

    1. Volleyball net
    2. Poles or support system
    3. Boundary lines
    4. Additional gear, such as a volleyball, a ball pump and a carry bag.

Or you can buy a full volleyball set with all the necessary equipment, including the ball, ball pump and the carry bag!

    Step 3: Prepare the ground

To ensure a safe and enjoyable playing surface, you need to prepare the ground properly:

    1. Clear the area: Remove any obstacles such as rocks, branches, or debris from the playing area.

    2. Level the ground: If your yard is not already flat, you may need to level it. You can do it by removing excess soil or adding soil to low spots with a shovel or rake.

Step 4: Install the net and boundary lines

Once the ground is prepared, it's time to set up the net and mark the boundaries:

    1. Attach the net: Secure the volleyball net to the poles or support system according to the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure it is taut and at the correct height.

    2. Mark the boundary lines: Using ready-to-go boundary lines or spray paint, chalk, or string, mark the boundary lines on the ground. The standard backyard court size is 9 x 18 meters.

    Step 5: Have some fun!

No game is fun without a group who is keen to play! Grab some friends who love a good game of volleyball, a cooler with some cold drinks and a bbq and enjoy your long weekend!

By following these steps, you can create a safe and inviting space for volleyball enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. So grab a volleyball and get ready to have a great time right in your own backyard!
